Clothing styles and adjectives

Time: 15min.

Just print, cut and mix up all the bits and pieces, so the students match the words with their correct example.  They loved words such as tacky, flashy, scruffy or hoodie.

Today I’ve prepared a lesson on British currency and money in general.

1- Ask your students how much money they have in their pockets/purses in this very moment. Teach them how to pronounce “euro” properly.

2- Listening comprehension.

a) Listen to the conversation at Don’t let them read the script yet. What was the conversation about?

b) Listen again, following the conversation with the script. Check any new expressions (you can actually click on some of them, which will lead you to an explanation and example).

c) Do the 2 activities on the right of the script. They’ll help students remember the new expressions.

3. Match the money. Download the worksheet here: Skillswise. Just cut up the prices and let them match words with numbers.

4. Calculate the cost. Use this short worksheet as a game or competition. The first to calculate the exact cost will be the winner. There’s a higher level option, in case you find this one too easy for your students.

5. Money Quiz. Levels 1, 2 and 3.

Change Game. Great game where you’re at the till in a store and have to calculate the exact change you have to give to the customer.

This interactive book is one of many at Collège Marc Chagall‘s site. They are great, offering interesting vocabulary, grammar explanations, some written and oral practicing and oral comprehension.

This one, in particular, is designed to practice the comparative adjectives and learn some vocabulary (adjectives, in this case) related to them.

I specially liked the final part, where students are given a bunch of personality adjectives in order to compare girls and boys. They really enjoyed that part!

Yo no tenía ni idea de lo que quería decir tal expresión hasta ayer mismo, pero estoy encantada de poder referirme a este grupo de palabras con un nombre práctico y económico. 🙂

La actividad se llama S.A.N.E. book titles. Consta de 3 pasos:

1. Presentación de worksheets 1&2, con los títulos de 16 libros y sus 16 argumentos. Los estudiantes deben unir, adivinando de qué irá el libro a partir de su título.

2. Se corrigen las “suposiciones” presentando las imágenes de las portadas de los libros.

3. Se presentan a los alumnos las S.A.N.E. words, sacando entre todos sus 16 posibles combinaciones, a la vez que sus significados.

4. Se reparte la última worksheet (#3), donde se practica con el uso de las 16 palabras, eligiendo la más adecuada para cada frase.
