Money

8 jun

Today I’ve prepared a lesson on British currency and money in general.

1- Ask your students how much money they have in their pockets/purses in this very moment. Teach them how to pronounce “euro” properly.

2- Listening comprehension.

a) Listen to the conversation at Elllo.com. Don’t let them read the script yet. What was the conversation about?

b) Listen again, following the conversation with the script. Check any new expressions (you can actually click on some of them, which will lead you to an explanation and example).

c) Do the 2 activities on the right of the script. They’ll help students remember the new expressions.

3. Match the money. Download the worksheet here: Skillswise. Just cut up the prices and let them match words with numbers.

4. Calculate the cost. Use this short worksheet as a game or competition. The first to calculate the exact cost will be the winner. There’s a higher level option, in case you find this one too easy for your students.

5. Money Quiz. Levels 1, 2 and 3.

Change Game. Great game where you’re at the till in a store and have to calculate the exact change you have to give to the customer.

Here’s a list of money games you can also use: Money Games.

Comparatives

This interactive book is one of many at Collège Marc Chagall‘s site. They are great, offering interesting vocabulary, grammar explanations, some written and oral practicing and oral comprehension.

This one, in particular, is designed to practice the comparative adjectives and learn some vocabulary (adjectives, in this case) related to them.

I specially liked the final part, where students are given a bunch of personality adjectives in order to compare girls and boys. They really enjoyed that part!

I found it really useful. Hope you do, too!

Here are some sites I love for working on giving and following directions:

1. Destination Impossible

Choose a character and help him/her get to his/her destination as you read the instructions.

2. How to get to my house from the train station

Listen to the instructions and find where my house is.

Hope you find it interesting!

Here’s a great site to practice decorating an apartment! Roger gets quite angry if you don’t follow his instructions…

S.A.N.E. words

24 mar

Imagen tomada de Lessonstream.org

Ayer encontré un lesson plan en la página de Jamie Keddie ( Lessonstream.org) que me encantó y funcionó muy bien en clase.

Se trataba de una serie de actividades para trabajar el grupo de palabras denominadas S.A.N.E.: Las palabras resultantes de la combinación entre…

Some                                Thing

Any                                   Body

No                                      One

Every                               Where
